Aravella Simotas is proud of her Greek heritage. An Astoria resident since childhood, she is fully aware of the neighborhood's problems, as well as the challenges facing the Greek American Community. She keeps abreast of events in Greece, and wants to devote herself to public service. Ms. Simotas, a young attorney, is being groomed by NY State Assemblyman Michael Gianaris to run as his successor. Last week, Assemblyman Gianaris announced that he will seek election to the NY State Senate in the next election.
