The Pan Lemnian Philanthropic Association "Hephaestus" and the Women's Division "Maroula" held a series of events on Sunday October 11, 2009 to commemorate the 97th anniversary of the liberation of Lemnos from Ottoman occupation. The events began with a memorial service and blessing of the loaves at St. Catherine's Church in Astoria, NY, and concluded with a lecture by Hephaestus President Dr. Costas Hasapis, followed by a reception that was offered at the Lemnian House in Astoria.
