David Scondras, 63, Boston’s first openly gay councilor, named Sgt. Ryan Shafer and officers Eric Cerullo and John Fornesi as among the Lawrence cops who hit and kicked him during his arrest. Scondras’ attorney, William Korman, said he was “brutally beaten,” and needed brain surgery to relieve swelling on his brain. Scondras, of Cambridge, in 2007 pleaded guilty to enticing a child under 16 and was ordered to register as a sex offender and serve 18 months probation.
Former Boston City Councilor David Scondras filed a federal lawsuit against the Lawrence police department on Friday October, 9, 2009, alleging he was severely beaten and denied medical care by the police after his 2006 arrest for seeking a tryst with a 15-year-old boy he met online.
