They still don't get it
The Greek politicians still don't get it. Communicating with the people of Greece that is, clearly, honestly, focusing on what must be done for a better future. I don't blame PM Papademos - he is not a politician, but if his time is extended (it should. Greece doesn't need elections in April)it is a skill he will need to pick up. in the meantime, it is the existing party leaders who should be conveying to the people what is being done- or should be done that has been ignored - to create a better future that is worth their current pain and sacrifice. They are still enjoying their all expenses paid cruise in the Greek political sea, but they have not checked the name of the boat on their ticket: S.S. Titanikos. The PASOK party is melting now - 12 % in the polls and will likely crumble later. ND may survive the next round of elections and doomed coalition, but pieces may break away from them also. Still at 30 % in the polls, they will not be the post PASOK giant they imagine they will be. What is stunning are the attacks on the PASOK corpse of ND politicians who act as if their party just had their immaculate conception sometime after the crisis began. Hello! They were party in power as the country began to go over the cliff. They were the voice that did not cry out enough in the wildereness when priot PASOK governments drove the Greek ship of state toward the waterfalls everyone knew (or should have known) lay ahead. A friend has told me that Samaras will get his "turn" as Prime Minister and his hands are clean since he left ND and was in the political wilderness when all this was going down. Perhaps, but his behavior while he has been leader of the opposition these past 3 years has been execrable. When the flawed yet at times heroic Papandreou was forcing his socialist party to face the realities of a market oriented, capitalism dominate world, shouldn't his former college roommate have been applauding, and then lending a hand? Yes Samaras will come out first in the next election, but he won't be able to form a government on his own. They should give him a first place trophy and send him packing, along with the two, maybe three eldest generations of the leaders of all the parties. Build a retirement home somewhere near the parliament for the whole crew, with ample security however, because when the pain gets worse, the people of Greece know who turned the political scene into a sick combination of farce and horror show.
