What Kind of God Would Allow Such a Tragedy to Happen?

This being the week of the “Christmas column,” I was torn between issuing my annual Christmas message and writing about the topic at the forefront of most readers’ minds: the horrific mass pedocide that occurred last week in Connecticut. Keeping in mind that I was midway through a trip to my beloved hometown of Manhattan (I live a considerable dist

A small group of minorities have removed God from almost everything in this country. It is wrong to speak of God in public outside of a church but it is ok to sell violent video games and make movies that are so horrific and so satanic that you wonder what kind of mind can create such evil? Where is the Christian majority? Where are the soldiers of Christ? I urge all the readers to use the words "Merry Christmas" and "God bless you" as often as you wish and fight for Christianity and our human rights with the protection of the US constitution. Maybe if this horrible demented kid had a Christmas tree in his house and went to church and sunday school, maybe if someone taught him right from wrong and that evil means eternal damnation in hell, maybe if he were shown love and compassion and the 10 commandments were instilled in him throughout his childhood, instead of video games and guns, this horrific tragedy and other ones could've been avoided.

Both the question and the content of the article place God "out there," in heaven, overlooking from "above" and making judgments on things "down here." That's a small God! The real God is "Emmanuel," God with us, in us, for us, within us! The question of evil is somewhat different and it needs extensive discussion. In brief, God is Love and has nothing to do with evil things.

You lost me father. I see this as the moral decline of society in America and the absence of God in our daily lives as a society as contributing to these random acts of domestic terrorism. The lengths society goes to and schools go to in shielding God from us in the name of "political correctness" and offending the atheists is bringing out evil like we could never have imagined
