US foreign policy for the last century (at any rate) has been under the control of non-elected elites, no matter which Party controlled the White House. Without exception Secretary's of State and Defense have come out of the Council on Foreign Relations and/or the Trilateral Commission, as have many of the other key officials in each Administration. US Foreign policy with respect to Greece, Cyprus and Hellenic issues in general has been largely non-supportive and occasionally hostile. When it comes down to Turkey and Greece there has been little question of an American bias towards Ankara. This was certainly true during the Kissinger years, not that it changed much for the better since then. America may be a Superpower, but our foreign policy has often been fickle, hypocritical and not up to the high ideals the founding fathers pronounced. Far from it.
