ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Police say about 50 people threw eggs and plastic bottles of water at about 400 people holding a gay pride parade in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki.

Police moved in to restrict the attackers on Saturday, but no injuries were reported.

In recent days, Anthimos, the senior Greek Orthodox cleric in Thessaloniki, had publicly criticized the planned gay pride parade. Anthimos, who only uses one name, is known for outspoken speeches on social and political issues.

An annual gay pride rally is annually held in Athens, the Greek capital, and normally occurs without incident.

Being Gay is against our religion, and is a devilish lifestyle. These gay are likely, if this was a more religious country like Muslim countries, these people would of been in jail where they belong. It is a disastrous way of life contrary to the norms of the christian world. It has satanism at its roots.

Agree with your comments, but folks should not be attacked in the street for conducting an approved parade. They have their rights as well and turning them into 'victims' only enhances their cause. It's counterproductive.

Why do people need to parade in the streets to tell us who they're sleeping with? A person's sexual preference should be kept to him or herself. They draw attention to themselves when it isn't needed. No one will judge them if they just did whatever it is they do in private and not parade in the streets provoking everyone.

They have an agenda to promote their lifestyle, Niko. I find it appalling, but legal. Best thing is to ignore them.
