German chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday that Europe's heavily indebted nations must push ahead with structural reforms to get their economies back on track and must not rely on government spending to foster growth.
BERLIN (AP) — Germany's chancellor, Angela Merkel, says Europe's heavily indebted nations must push ahead with structural reforms to get their economies back on track.

Merkel, the leader of Europe's biggest economy, on Tuesday said labor market and other reforms do not improve the situation overnight but they are the right path toward sustainable growth.

Merkel reiterated that encouraging growth in Europe cannot be achieved by piling up yet more debt.
