8 Kurdish lawmakers face possible trial

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey's state-run news agency says prosecutors have asked parliament to lift the immunity of eight Kurdish lawmakers to pave the way for their trial on charges of alleged membership in a Kurdish rebel group.

The Anadolu Agency says Thursday that six legislators from the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party, including chairman Selahattin Demirtas, as well as two independent lawmakers are accused of ties to the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, that is fighting for autonomy in the largely Kurdish southeast. They face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
