Greece's Tsipras refuses to join pro-bailout gov't

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greek radical left leader Alexis Tsipras says he will not join or support a pro-bailout coalition government, saying he cannot agree to what he terms a mistake. His continued refusal makes new elections in the crisis-struck country more likely.

Tsipras made the comments Sunday after attending a meeting convened by President Karolos Papoulias with the head of the conservative New Democracy and socialist PASOK parties. Papoulias is making a last-ditch effort to broker an agreement and break the deadlock created by the elections, which left no party with enough parliamentary seats to form a government.

If no deal is reached, Greece must hold new elections next month, prolonging the political uncertainty and endangering the country's euro membership.

It'd be justice if this pompous clown would suffer a major defeat in the next elections, but that would require the Greek people to wake up and recognize he has no solutions. I'm far from optimistic that'll ever happen.

This will never happens Philip, the Greek Citizens of Greece, think they can ask for billions and receive it, and never have to pay it back. They think the world is their bank, they are for a rude awakening. They will go into default, I truly believe this will come and soon. Such a shame, and I wonder what kind of government will emerge for this mess?

Maybe it would be just deserts if Tsipras is handed the PM's job, Nicholas? He's another loud-mouthed demagogue, just like the late Andreas Papandreou. Hand him the job and let him implement his ridiculous policies. And then when the Greek economy comes crashing down as Greece gets thrown out of the EUROZONE, let him explain how he didn't mean for THAT to happen! The Greek people will end up lyinching his arse in Syntagma Square, and justifiably so.

I totally agree with you Philip he is loud- mouthed and threatening. If he thinks his threats will work on the ECC (Europe) he must be crazy. As it is the ECC has about had it with Greece's stall tactics, and probably wants thrown them out if it lasts too much longer. Greece's exit from the Euro and the ECC would hurt the ECC very little. Greece would than have no choice but to default and pray for something or someone to help. The stark reality is that Tsipras is not capable to run Greece now or ever. Him and his party would be blamed for destroying Greece for the foreseeable future, and his life wouldn't be worth a plug nickle.

If you polled the EU citizens outside Greece I'm sure they'd endorse throwing Greece out of the EUROZONE yesterday. There is no love for Greece right now. Greece has ZERO leverage to make the bailout plan any better, despite what SYRIZA says. Tsipras would be thrown out of Brussels on his rear if he tried to extort a better deal. The choice for Greek voters right now is to tough it out with the current bailout plan, or leave the EUROZONE-take a 50-80% depreciation on their wealth-and go back to the Drachma. If they vote for the second alternative, on their heads be it.
