What Should Greece Do about Illegal Immigrants? Join the Debate!

From time to time, an issue emerges and inspires various minds to converge, often at odds with one another, to discuss it. Hopefully, collective enlightenment will result from such conversations. The Ancient Greeks did that in the Agora, the original marketplace of ideas, and we, their modern-day descendants, aspire to continue that tradition. We (Diamataris and Scaros) rarely disagree with one another, but we think it is valuable to share our thoughts when we do, and invite you to share yours as well.

Put them in detention centers and deport them, what else? Greece can ill afford to handle illegal immigrants at this time. A nation is under no obligation to allow illegals in.

I again with you, but the lack of any criminality that the illegals have done has got to be handled. If they know nothing will happen to them, the illegal immigrants will continue to cross and increase the expenses to deal with them for Greece. I agree in order not to have them, Greece must secure its borders no matter what (land mines, soldiers, no men zones, etc.) is done. This alone should save Greece expenses in the long run, and deal with the criminality angle also.

Greece needs to develop humane immigration laws to handle the influx of visitors. Since Greece depends on tourism for it's livelihood, it's inevitable that there will be a certain percent of people who visit yet don't want to leave. Many of the ones wanting to stay will be seeking asylum and Greece should do what it can to accommodate those asylees.

The influx of these illegal immigrants has helped to destroy Greece. There high crime rates, have destroyed Greece's neighborhoods, brought decay, and has made the Greek language a minority in these places. The short term must start with sealing the boarder problems, no matter what, massive deportations of these illegals must begin. Greece can ill afford to put up with the massive illegal population it has, that is why political parties like Golden Dawn have succeeded in getting seats in Parliament. The people wants these criminals out now, and the public has spoken, now it up to the polticians to do what the public wants.
