NEW YORK – Thousands of Greek Orthodox communities around the world, hundreds across the country, and dozens in the New York Metropolitan area will celebrate Pascha on April 15. Holy Week reaches a glorious climax at the Resurrection services of Saturday night and Sunday’s Agape services, but by then millions will have powerful memories of Palm Sunday, the moving “Engomia – Lamentations” services on Good Friday with their flowered bier of Christ, and numerous services in between. This year there will also be intense prayers for a better future for Greece and relief for its suffering people. For a number of parishes there will be emotional moments of reminiscing and looking forward. The Church of St. John’s in Blue Point has been suddenly plunged into mourning after the sudden death of their beloved priest, Fr. John Kefalas.
