Gianaris’ Aim To Prevent Redistricting
Every 10 years legislative districts are redrawn in response to new US census data. It is an opportunity both to make political bodies more representative, and for political shenanigans. This time around the Republicans, who control the New York Senate took aim not just at the Democratic party, but at rising Democratic leader, NY State Senator Michael Gianaris. Astoria residents and Greek-Americans are outraged because the plan would divide their neighborhood in half.
