BOSTON - In an exclusive interview with The National Herald Archbishop Chryostomos of Cyprus revealed that he is getting ready to present a political plan “for the salvation of Cyprus.” He said “I am forced to propose a plan and to invite the people to adopt it. I will try to find people who can deliver the program that I will propose and I will invite the people to vote it.” He openly blamed the government of Cyprus by saying that “we have deviated” from what he called in Greek, “’the basis’ in the discussions with the Turkish Cypriot leadership. At this moment the Turks are talking about two states. The Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan said it very clearly during his recent illegal visit here that he wants two separate states in Cyprus. He is not going to return anything back, neither Famagusta nor Morfou.” The Archbishop believes that what is needed immediately is for “the entire leadership to sit down and agree on a national policy, because If we do not have a collective effort of all the political powers we will not be able to achieve anything.”

Once again the Church says it like it is! The politicians have been pressured and worn down during the past 37 years to the point that they have been and are ineffective. It is because the Church tells the people the harsh truth that the politicians want to silence it and put the Church on the sidelines. I say cheers to Archbishop Chrysostomos!
